API key

API key

So we have to use a registered api key.

At the moment for dev testing and personal use the daily limits are plenty.

  1. When/if I make it to production, I'm guessing increased usage by many
other users could surpass the 100 calls per day so, again guessing, incur some sort of ongoing cost from bose. Is this the case? (A way off at the moment, but just thinking about publishing options and if I need to rule out "free" to use apps)
  2. What's to stop someone nicking my key (eg. network sniffing) and using it for their apps?

    Hi TvDan,

Good questions. At this time, we have no current plans to charge developers for SoundTouch Control or Audio Notification API usage, for either development- or production-level access. I'm working on a clear answer to your second question as well, but I want to touch base with the team on it this week before posting.

    Hey TvDan,

To answer your second question, we can work with you with respect to API key protection as part of the certification process for production-level apps. Additionally, among other things, Bose retains the ability to stop the distribution of unauthorized apps, working with you to avoid disruption to your certified app.
